Coach Mauricio

My name is Mauricio Urdaneta and I am extremely humbled and very excited about the opportunity I have been offered to become the head coach for our amazing Space Coast Mavericks team. To share a bit about myself, I was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela where I lived until I was about 16 years old. Around this time, my parents made a very challenging but life-changing decision for our family to relocate to the United States. Baseball has always been the sport I love. While in Venezuela, I played baseball through mid-high school, but after relocating to the USA, I needed to prioritize new life goals including my education, and this is the reason why I stopped playing the sport competitively, but I always kept playing it for recreation with my friends every time I had an opportunity to do so. After overcoming multiple life challenges, most of them related to our transition from Venezuela, I was able successfully complete my degree in Industrial & Systems Engineering at the University of Florida (Go Gators!!). My career has moved me around a bit, starting in Knoxville, TN… then Jacksonville, FL… then Montgomery, AL…and the most recent move to our beautiful Melbourne, FL where my family and I have been residing since 2012. Today, I work for Collins Aerospace as a Manufacturing Engineering Manager. I am a blessed man with an amazing wife (Paola) and two amazing children (Mauricio Jr. & Sophia), whom I love with everything I've got. Both of our kids love sports. Sophia is very big into Volleyball and doing a great job there. Mauricio Jr. has been playing baseball since he was about 4 years old, so we've been going at it since ~2015. I have had the privilege to be either the head coach, or an assistant coach for all of his baseball seasons. Now you tell me...what else can a baseball dad ask for? J

Let's now chat about what's ahead. There are no words to describe how great I feel about this new baseball journey with Travel Ball. I’ll say it again, I’m very thankful and humbled with this opportunity to continue to make an impact in the lives of young athletes. We’ll continue to learn baseball along the way, but the mission of our coaching staff is to teach our players life values, the beauty of team-work, learning from mistakes, fighting till the very end (last out), helping a struggling team-mate, growing when we lose, and being humbled when we win, never forgetting where we came from. No matter what our winning record is, if we teach these things to our Mavericks, our goal will be accomplished. On behalf of our amazing coaching staff, we look forward to partnering with all our great parents and working together to accomplish these goals.

Let’s play ball !!
